Out with the old and in with the new. This has never applied more when you consider the self-stick versus the civilian drone. The selfie-stick was so successful because our smartphone are our life hub, whether they be Apple, Samsung, Nokia or Sony. A selfie-stick however can only provide you with the output that your phone is capable of, here is where the world of unmanned aerial vehicles takes over.

Still feeding off of that love we have for our smartphone the drone is controlled directly by your handheld device, using a compatible app that is free to download. Drones, quadcopters and mini-drones all set off sporting either a high-definition or up to 4K camera. 4K is in simple terms, ultra-high definition… amazing. A quiet heads up, if your model supports a 4K camera it’s likely to come with a fully functioning remote too, pretty cool addition to your new device.

So why a drone then? Why invest in a flying device that is legally allowed to reach heights of up to 400 feet and speeds of 30 miles per hour? The simple answer? because they’re amazingly awesome. The high-definition camera uses a fisheye lens, which are extremely cool on ground let alone 400 feet in the air. The footage that you capture is unlike anything you’d have ever captured before and it’s yours to keep and use as you like, be it for memories or social media… not commercial though, not yet. That’s illegal at the moment.

Running the risk of falling out of the sky isn’t something you experience with most gadgets, if any you’ve owned so far! This in mind of course you might be concerned about the steadiness of your footage but don’t worry, it will feed back entirely stable and crystal clear footage because of the 4 axis gimbal the camera sits on and it’s self-steadying capabilities. Oh one last thing, the drone will last a maximum of 20 minutes up in the air but don’t worry about it dropping out of the sky and falling to it’s grisly end, when it nears the end of it’s battery life the drone will begin to venture it’s way back to you safe and sound… you don’t get that with a selfie-stick.
